Although this sounds intimidating, it does not agitate the fabric at all but instead involves a gentle, even suction running over the rug in strips. This loosens and extracts any surface grit and sometimes is enough to remove the deeper dust particles as well. We will perform this action on the top of the rug and, depending on its structure, may be able to lightly vacuum the back of the rug as well. By removing the surface dirt, we are able to reduce contamination of the water and will prevent any smearing or breaking down of dirt particles further into the rug. Once that process is finished, we begin the wet clean using lukewarm water, so we don’t damage or blur the rugs design and colors. We only hand wash our rugs and we use extremely gentle cleaning solutions so nothing compromises the rug or material, regardless of age and how delicate it is.

To dry our antique rugs, we use a combination of air circulation (think a lukewarm convection oven cycle), and dehumidifying. This takes anywhere from hours to days to be fully dry and is arguably the most important step in the cleaning process. Last, we use a soft brush to run over your rug and restore the pliability to the fibers. This restores the texture of the rug prior to the wash and also allows us to be sure we haven’t missed any stains or dirt. Finally, the rug comes back to you, fresh and ready for its place in your home.
